Mental Health Takes Centre Stage at Kā te Rama Switched On Group's Wellbeing Breakfast
24 September 2024As part of our commitment to mental health awareness, Kā te Rama Switched On Group recently hosted a Wellbeing Breakfast in Christchurch. The event, which took place on 24 September, brought together local kaimahi and trade partners to engage in meaningful kōrero about mental wellness and personal resilience.
Former professional rugby league player Richie Barnett headlined the event, sharing his journey and insights as the I Am Hope Culture and Wellbeing Ambassador. Alongside Barnett, Rob Beard from Beard Brothers shared his raw and heartfelt story, creating a diverse and relatable dialogue on navigating health and wellbeing challenges.
"We believe that by opening up these conversations, we can create a more supportive and understanding work environment," says Hannah McKnight, head of Communications, Engagement and Impact for Kā te Rama Switched On Group. "Our aim is to equip our team and partners with practical tools for maintaining mental wellness in their daily lives."
Attendees were treated to not just kai for the body, but also for the mind, as speakers shared their personal experiences and offered actionable advice for navigating mental health challenges. Followed by a hearty BBQ breakfast provided by Beard Brothers, setting a warm and welcoming tone to continue this important kōrero.
In line with our commitment to supporting rangatahi mental health, we made a donation to I Am Hope as part of our Mental Health Awareness Week initiatives. We also encouraged attendees to contribute directly to this vital kaupapa, amplifying the impact of our collective efforts.
Looking ahead, we're excited to announce that plans are underway for Gumboot Friday activities in November. This initiative will further our support for mental health awareness and provide additional resources for our teams.
"Mental health is not a one-time conversation," our Hannah adds. "It's an ongoing journey, and we're committed to supporting our people every step of the way."
By fostering open dialogue and providing practical support, we at Kā te Rama Switched On Group are working to create a culture where mental wellbeing is prioritised and personal growth is celebrated. Through events like the Wellbeing Breakfast and our upcoming Gumboot Friday activities, we're not just talking about mental health – we're taking action to make a real difference in our community.
