Our Tree Planting Champions
17 July 2021Last Friday some of our Switched On Group whānau, (including one of our subcontractors AJ from Four Seasons), volunteered to take part in the World Environment Tree Planting Competition run by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand
The team had a fantastic day and helped to plant over 1800 native Kahikatea trees in Cranford Basin – which is in one of the suburbs that we service as part of our contract with Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities. Kahikatea trees are the tallest native trees in New Zealand, the tallest recorded being 66.5m tall!
To top off the rewarding day out helping our community our team managed to plant the most trees in the two hours, a total of 713. Taking out the trophy for the third year running, ahead of the team who came second and planted a respectable 634 trees. The post planting gourmet BBQ was much appreciated after a hard slog put in by the team. Thanks Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.
We will be back next year to defend our title!
